It was nice at first, but certain gameplay and visual elements of the Argonian race started to annoy me after a while, like the big, ugly tail, facial features, etc. There are methods of changing your race as well as various other features of your character, but they're only available for the PC version of Skyrim.
I assume you play in 3rd person mode, as you find the tail to be quite annoying. Maybe you could read up about the Argonian race on the internet, to develop you interest in the race as a whole I personally enjoy playing as an Argonian.
I recommend reading about the lore of the Shadowscales. I know that this is very very very late but for newer people looking you can just enter you console and type the command showracemenu you don't need any mods but you do need to be on PC.

You can change your appearance as many times as you like that way, but if you are a vampire or werewolf she will not allow you to do it. I use the same character appearance I use in Saints row IV to do this, I needed mods , so is unlikely i will grow sick of him. Your character should have changed heights just slightly and their face will look like putty.
Also, the race won't be shown as selected. This is good. Uber complex, I know. This works around the stat reset, as the RaceMenu still thinks you're the selected race, but the game thinks you're the Desired race, so when you select the Desired race after having entered it it will just refresh their looks without affecting their stats. Or so I figure.
