What is kata beach like
The island has a reputation of being a massive tourist attraction with millions of visitors dropping by every year, destroying of what was once an authentic and local beach destination. Yet, we have also seen a great deal of amazing pictures of nice beaches and stunning sunsets that made us believe that there must still be a bit of beauty left to discover….
We stayed at Kata Beach , a beach located a bit further down south of the island and roughly a one hour ride from the international airport. Small huts have now been replaced by large hotels and resorts and local restaurants give way to global chains such as KFC and Pizza Hut.
Streets are packed with massage parlors, tour operators, bars and souvenir shops. This was actually the first impression we had once we left the hotel and went down towards the beach. The beach itself is nice. Trip Moments Post. Kata Beach is one of the best and the most visited beaches in Phuket island.
It is located on the west coast of Phuket. The sea is turquoise blue here and the sand is white and from the beach you can see an iconic island standing in the middle of the ocean, making excellent sunset photos. Kata is less crowded than Patong Beach which is the most popular beach in Phuket and still offers a great choice of restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and hotels.
It has a nice little street with vendors on the weekend selling beach clothing, Thailand spa and beauty products, t shirts as well as freshly made smoothies, pad Thai and grilled chicken or fish.
Lots of small shops to buy Thailand massage balms and oils. On the beach itself has massage huts , parasailing, banana boat and jet ski rentals. It was such an amazing holiday in Kata Beach. And if you are traveling to Thailand I highly recommend to spend some days in Kata beach!
Kata Seafood is easy to spot because of its location right on the beach, next to a gigantic tree. The restaurant serving Thai and seafood is rather touristy, but It kept a certain old fashioned charm, and beachfront restaurants are rare in Kata! There are so many places all around Kata where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. From Thai food, seafood, street food to steak houses and some excellent Italian ristorantes, finding a place to eat will never be a problem.
Kata being the second or third most popular beach after Patong , you can expect to find a massive choice of hotels and resorts. Kata Rocks is a luxurious and trendy collection of pool villas on a hill at the south end of Kata Beach. Every Sky Villa is immense with infinity pools, offering fantastic views on the Andaman Sea, even from your bed. Beyond Resort Kata is a long-established hotel in Phuket. The location right on the beach in south Kata is fantastic.
With rooms, this is not a small hotel, but the situation is unique if you want to get the best of everything. If you are on a tight budget, you will easily find good hotels in a convenient location with Chanalai Resorts, Orchidacea Resort, and Novotel Avista.
The beachfront is a short scenic drive along the sea and on one side and entirely occupied by Club Med on the other. The road is relatively narrow and offers very little parking.
During high season, the road is often closed to host a small night market with stage performances. Kata Center is the oldest part and has grown around a busy intersection; not much has changed around there if you exclude Starbucks and At Peach restaurant.
Dining options are plenty, but if you want a special dinner, try Kampong Kata Hill on top of the hill right behind Starbucks opposite Dino Park. There used to be an apparent gap between Kata Center and Kata South, but both have now merged. The south has become the most active part of Kata, especially in the evening. The roadside is full of places to enjoy an affordable dinner: Thai, seafood, grills and international restaurants, food stalls, and even food markets.
